Contract Hire is a great risk free way for any business to run their vehicle, available to Limited Companies, Sole Traders or Partnerships, and offers fixed monthly budgeting with minimal outlay.
With Contract Hire you only pay for use of the vehicle not the whole cost, essentially what you are paying for is the depreciation and interest. Contracts are usually for between 2 to 4 years. Generally the longer the period the lower the monthly payment, however occasionally there are exceptions.
Payments are based on the length of contract and total mileage, and are fixed for the contract period.
Optional maintenance packages can be included in the agreement allowing you to manage your fleet costs effectively.
As you never own the vehicle, at the end of the contract you return the vehicle to the leasing company who sell it on your behalf. This means you never take the risk on the final value or have the worry of selling it.
It is an extremely tax effective method of funding a business vehicle as the rentals may be offset against your taxable profits.
Contract hire is very popular with VAT registered companies because they are able to claim back 50% of the VAT on the finance element on cars and 100% on vans. If maintenance is included then 100% VAT can be claimed on the maintenance cost.
